Making Avondale East Home for the Holidays

Dec 2, 2020

The quiet and charming village of Avondale Estates is an idealistic setting for the holiday season; if there was ever a place to capture the true spirit of the holidays for all of its residents, it’s Avondale Estates. While this years’ norm may look differently in this picturesque town, reflecting on yearly traditions in Avondale Estates mirrors the essence of the holidays.

Keeping Traditions Alive

The annual American Express’ Small Business Saturday in Avondale Estates marks the beginning of the festive fun in this small town. Along the mile of exciting shopping and choice eateries, loyal patron’s spend the fourth Saturday’s in November sipping their coffee and seeking small business vendibles.

And then, in the annually-anticipated days to come, Avondale Estates residents prepare for the adored tree lighting event that occurs at the intersection of Clarendon Avenue and South Avondale Road. And although this is a virtual event this year, in years past, this is an evening spent with friends and family, enjoying lively Christmas caroling and hot chocolate, and surprise visits from Santa. The moments shared with loved ones in Avondale Estates create memories that will last a lifetime in a community of friendships and meaningful connections.

In a town this special, one tree lighting is not nearly enough. This year marks the 22nd Annual Lake Avondale Tree Lighting; this special event of the Lake Avondale tree lighting has become a favored pastime since longtime resident Thomas P. Samford built a gazebo at Lake Avondale to honor his late son, John. Every year, the community gathers for the lighting of the “floating” tree that beams off of the lake and illuminates in this thoughtful town.

Apart from tree lightings, the residents of Avondale Estates anticipate the 28th Annual Avondale Estates Christmas Tour of Homes and virtual Holiday Market. Get a glimpse of what makes this town special on a magical ride through the town or enjoy the virtual Holiday Market that features over 30 artists and vendors that sell anything and everything you need for holiday shopping.

As 2020 comes to a close, we cherish the town we call home and the neighbors that have created such an idealistic sense of community, all the while shining back on the traditions that make Avondale Estates special all year round…but especially during the holidays.
