One of our favorite Avondale Estates breakfast spots is open again for patio dining, to go with the online ordering and pickup service with which they served the community during the weeks of stay-at-home precautions. At Rising Son, tables for four are currently the maximum, and we must call to reserve, but what a treat to enjoy a sunny, outdoor breakfast at one of the places that’s been high on our list, and for good reason. Their biscuits are good enough to be right at home in Avondale, and that’s saying something.
Making breakfast a treat has been the specialty of Southern Sweets Bakery, nearby since 1992. With temporary hours limited to weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there’s still plenty of time to get a hearty start with their Southern Breakfast, or tasty fuel to-go with a breakfast burrito, or to sit and savor every syrupy bite of Uriah’s famous buttermilk flapjacks. Taking a bakery box back to one of the single-family homes here has been the birth of many a hero. When you bring a rustic cherry or apple pie – or a pecan tart – home from Southern Sweets, you can really change your day. Leaving no one out, Southern Sweets prepares vegan and gluten-free desserts, too. Their cheesecakes are endorsed by long-time NYC residents who made their way home to Avondale Estates.
Adventuresome Neighbors
Some of the breakfast choices nearby are interestingly unexpected. Banjo Coffee reaches far for 100% organic, fair trade beans, roasted by Café Campesino, and brewed here in small batches. This extraordinary coffee is accompanied by baked goods, bagels, and a focused selection of locally-sourced foods.
If you imagine that vegan would limit your choices for breakfast, then you haven’t seen the menu at Go Vegan Grill. Resourcefully, they have imagined their way into offering old reliables on their breakfast platters. Bacon, sausage patties, salmon cakes and even brats are on the menu here, alongside their eggs and breakfast potatoes. So you don’t have to be considering a whole change of style to enjoy the goodness that comes from a vegan kitchen. They’re open again for dining-in at Go Vegan Grill, too.
And in case adventure is not on your mind for breakfast, you’ll find it reassuring that there are no fewer than three Starbucks within easy reach of Avondale Estates, and they are open for take-out or delivery.
Where Better than a Greek Diner
There are breakfast aficionados who claim there’s no better spot at break of day than a good Greek diner. Kafenio Avondale, on College Avenue, is here to back up that claim. Offering breakfast all day, in that diner tradition, Kafenio is home to one of those seemingly clairvoyant menus that anticipates your mood all through the day, from omelets to gyros to baklava.
In Avondale Estates, the luxury homes are not the only signs of gracious living. The options for enjoying a delicious start to the day ahead – whether productive or relaxing – are varied and abundant. The quality of life that characterizes Avondale East is just one source of its value. For more information on how to own, visit https://www.avondaleeast.com/contact/ or contact us at 770.502.6230.
